OWCP Doctors for Injured Federal Workers in DFW
The Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA) lets an injured federal employee choose their own physician for initial treatment. That physician has to be enrolled with the Department of Labor's Office of Workers' Compensation Programs (OWCP) to bill for your care, and has to submit reports OWCP will accept.

Can a federal employee choose their own doctor for an OWCP claim?
Yes. Under FECA, an injured federal employee may choose their own physician for initial treatment. The physician must be enrolled with OWCP to be paid. After that first choice, changing physicians generally requires OWCP approval. Blue Star's DOL doctors are OWCP-enrolled at all four DFW locations.
Which OWCP forms do I need after a federal work injury?
For a single-incident (traumatic) injury, file Form CA-1 with your supervisor within 30 days to protect continuation of pay. For a condition that developed over time, file Form CA-2. Your employer may issue a CA-16 to authorize treatment. Your doctor then submits medical reports such as the CA-17 duty status report and CA-20 attending physician's report. Lost wages are claimed on Form CA-7. Our team helps you complete the medical side correctly.
Does OWCP pay for chiropractic care?
Only in a limited way. FECA reimburses chiropractors only for manual manipulation of the spine to correct a subluxation that is demonstrated by X-ray (20 CFR 10.311). Chiropractors may also provide physical therapy under a qualified physician's direction. Because Blue Star is physician-led, your care plan is set up to meet these rules.
How soon should I see a doctor after a car accident?
As soon as possible, ideally within 72 hours, even if you feel fine. Whiplash and soft-tissue injuries often appear a day or more after a crash, and a prompt evaluation creates a clear record linking your injuries to the accident. Go to the ER first for any severe or emergency symptoms.
How do I pay for treatment after a car wreck if I don't have health insurance?
Many accident patients start treatment at Blue Star with no upfront cost. If you have a personal injury attorney, we can treat you under a Letter of Protection (LOP), which lets your medical bills be paid from your settlement. We also accept Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and MedPay coverage from auto policies.
What is whiplash, and how is it treated?
Whiplash is a neck injury caused by rapid back-and-forth movement of the head, most often in rear-end collisions. Symptoms include neck pain and stiffness, headaches, shoulder pain, and reduced range of motion. Treatment at Blue Star typically combines a medical evaluation, chiropractic care, and physical therapy to reduce pain and restore movement.
Do you treat injuries from truck and 18-wheeler accidents?
Yes. Truck wrecks often cause more severe back, neck, and joint injuries than passenger-car crashes. We evaluate, treat, and document truck accident injuries and work with your attorney under a Letter of Protection.
Do I need a referral, and is the consultation really free?
